How can I find subdomains? ›

Google Dorks are one of the best ways to find extenstive information about a target. Google's search operators make it easy to narrow down the search to find more subdomains. We can use the "site" operator in the search bar to find all the subdomains that Google has indexed for a domain.

The Subdomain Scanner uses the target domain's DNS server (or any other DNS server specified) to scan the DNS records for possible subdomains. While scanning, the Subdomain Scanner will also automatically identify if the domain being scanned uses wildcards (*. example.com).

You don't have to pay for subdomains if you already have a domain name. However, you may have to pay extra for a hosting plan that includes subdomains.

A Subdomain Finder is a subdomain enumeration tool that helps you discover subdomain hosts (aka subdomain FQDNs) which serve specific functions for your target (e.g. hosting public websites, private subdomains for testing web apps, URLs where you can find backups, etc.).

Google discovers and prioritizes the indexation of URLs based on the links pointing to those URLs. These links can be from external domains or from other accessible subdomains on the same root domain.

Are subdomains bad for SEO? Subdomains aren't directly bad for SEO, but they're not always the most strategic choice. Google states that subdomains and subdirectories are both fine, but subdomains are crawled and tracked separately.

Google will not penalize international websites that exist on separate subdomains if they have duplicate content. Instead, it will recognise the pages are identical and in most cases index both, but will only pick one URL to show in search results.

If you want to track visitors across different subdomains or domains of your business, then you will need to use the same GA property. But that does not mean that you need to use the same GTM container. Every website can use a different Google Tag Manager container but send the data to the same GA property.

It's a cyber threat executed when an attacker gains control of a legitimate subdomain that's no longer in use, then cleverly exploits the forgotten or misconfigured dangling DNS to host their own content on the previously used zone.

While a subdomain will appear before your TLD, a subdirectory link will include the subdirectory name after the original TLD. For example: Subdomain example: mysubdomain.mywebsite.com. Subdirectory example: mywebsite.com/mysubdirectory.

However, Google treats subdomains as separate sites.

While “blog.example.com” and “example.com” may share a root domain, Googlebot will view them as distinct domains and crawl and index them accordingly.

Subdomains are used to expand the use of a single domain, these do not need to be purchased separately to your domain; if you own a domain then you can add a subdomain to this. This method is commonly used for Moodle and Totara site setups. An example of a subdomain is “elearning.mycustomdomain.com.”

But, the subdomain can contain anything, not only IP addresses, and DNS records usually contain only host IPs, for example the mail server IP addresses for sea.microsoft.com. As such, while you can define some sort of logic between your IP blocks and subdomains, there's not relation between the two.

Each name has its own DNS records – really, the whole point of subdomains is that each of them can have different records (and point to different IP addresses) than the main domain.
