Everything I want from a reverb pedal

By John Wyrosdick from Byrnes Mill, MO on January 22, 2024 Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, audio engineer, music lover

The BigSky has stood the test of time and is still going strong. I've had mine for 4 years and I am still amazed by the sound and the functionality. My use is simple: I arrange my presets in banks of 3 (1 per button), each bank including; 1) a basic, low-mix verb, 2) a bigger, more ambient or lush verb and 3) an even bigger, more ambient/lush/over-the-top verb, and I can switch them on-the-fly. The sounds I use only scratch the surface of what it can do, but they also scratch every reverb itch I've ever had. If I could only have one pedal, the BigSky is my choice without hesitation (I have headstock tuners!). Numerous killer reverb pedals that boast more powerful processing and have some very interesting and amazing quality algorithms have been introduced since thee BigSky made its debut, but it is sill everything I want from a reverb pedal (and much, much more).

Amazing studio quality reverb sounds I believe are unmatched!

One of a handful of reverb pedals worth buying.

Fantastic sounds.

Great ambient sound

By JSB from IN on May 9, 2023

I love this unit. Use with a volume pedal for ambient reverb that swells and sustains forever. "Big Sky" is the right name for the unit.

Heaven in a Pedal

By Samuel Wenger from WASILLA, AK on March 2, 2023 Music Background: Played since a young age but 12 years of consistent experience. 6 years playing electric on our church worship team

I have had this pedal on my board for a over a year and a half now and will never need another reverb pedal. It has everything I need and more. I am still digging into it and finding new ways to use it. Don't let all those knobs scare you. Once you get the hang of it there is no easier way to get the sound you are looking for. Can't say enough about this American made best reverb pedal ever. As far as the cost, well, it does so much that it's like having 2 or 3 pedals in one. It's well worth every penny!

Labyrinth of Awesome

By Sweetwater Customer on January 12, 2023

This thing is incredible.
The factory presets supply what feels like never ending reverb tones and every single one sounds sublime.

Big Sky is Outta This World

By William Tracy from Melbourne, FL on November 17, 2022 Music Background: Accomplished singer, songwriter, rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist, musician, and performer.

I bought the Strymon Big Sky from Sweetwater back in 2016. It's an all inspiring tour de force of a pedal! Such an incredible tool for songwriting, performance, and recording. It covers everything from essential applications of reverb to the uncharted otherworldly textures of lush verbs. And…it does it all with Strymon style. Thanks Sweetwater! Y'all rock, and my longtime sales engineer Chris N. always delivers on the goods and outstanding customer service!

Best reverb for any instrument!

BigSky

By Micah Elliott on August 29, 2022

Extremely versatile and fairly easy to use and understand. It's everything I could have wanted from a Reverb pedal and more! Works very well for any context, but if you're looking for a good reverb pedal and won't take advantage of the preset saving on this then go check out the blueSky.

The Only Reverb You’ll Ever Need

By Subtronik on August 5, 2022

I've never heard a reverb sound so lush or organic until using a BigSky. I'll never need another reverb. Thank you Strymon!

Strymon Big Sky Reverb

Another fine product from Strymon!! A well-designed, intuitive Reverb with more presets than I ever imagined possible. PLUS— controls at the ready to shape and fine-tune and save my original sound settings. Fabulous pedal!! I'm SET UP for the rest of my life with the Strymon Blue Sky Reverb

Absolutely Amazing!

By Tony Tomaino from Neptune, NJ on April 25, 2022 Music Background: Drummer / Audio Geek

My Strymon journey began a few years ago. My first purchase was the Volante, and I was absolutely blown away by its quality and versatility. Panning the heads for stereo was a game-changer for me, and my Boss RE20 was none too pleased to say the least! I purchased a BlueSky last year and I was amazed what that little blue box can do. However, the tweaker in me desired more so I sprung for the BigSky. Well! As a drummer, I'm in hog heaven! All engines sound superb. Want Phil Collins in a box? The Gate mode in Nonlinear is nice. The Room, Hall and Plate engines are superb for drumset. The clarity of sound is absolutely amazing! This is the finest unit I've ever had. 10 stars!

Very Flexible and Useful Reverberator

By Doug from Ohio on April 21, 2022 Music Background: 40+ years playing music

Many reviews have spoken about this pedal so I won't re-hash those.

I am using this for a solo act I am putting together. One of my numbers has some ethereal parts which can be impossible to do without the advanced reverbs in this little box. I use an expression pedal to control the mix in real time so I can either have a touch or the full ethereal effect. Switching between reverb types can be done in a blended transition which is natural sounding like you have a sound engineer working with you. The other reverbs are nice too, and have many applications.

As for cost...you would not be able to come close to this unit by putting several reverbs and their mixing plus wiring together for the price of this unit. Well worth it for what you get!

Been wanting one for ages, not disappointed.

By Andrew Mann from Valley Center KS on March 11, 2022

Firstly thanks to the guys at Sweetwater, as always, fast delivery and item in perfect order. I've been thinking about getting one of these for ages and I finally pulled the trigger, kinda wish I hadn't waited so long, thing is amazing. I have it connected to the MoDx i just bought and what it does to the pianos on that thing just blows my mind, i think the bigsky could make a rock in washing machine sound awesome. Only problem I got now is trying not to buy anymore Strymon products just yet, can't make any promises though.

This is an incredible pedal WOW at the atmosphere you can create with it,and I haven't even scratched the service of it. Sweetwater as always great to work with. Thanks Ben

Just do it!

By Sweetwater Customer on March 2, 2022

I lived with the blue sky for 2 years as I was to hesitant to buy the big sky but now that I bought it tbh I wish I could of bought it earlier! This thing is a work horse. If your considering or having double thoughts I promise just buy it! I play worship and I cannot imagine not having this on my board!

As good as they say! Everything that you will need in a reverb pedal.

By Scott Crawford from Lake Elsinore, CA on January 26, 2022 Music Background: Guitarist - 43 years

The Strymon Big Sky is truly one of the best reverb pedals. I've been watching the video reviews and demos for some time and finally decided to go for it and buy the Big Sky. It is as good as they say. This is an amazing reverb pedal. I can't say enough about the quality of sound, options and flexibility. I'm sure that you will be very happy with the Big Sky if you decide to get one.

I have purchased some of my gear through Strymon directly. They have some excellent customer support. I've always had a great experience with them. This time I purchased my Strymon through Sweetwater. Sweetwater deserves a shout out too. They have some great customer support. I'm a buyer by profession and I deal with a lot of companies. Sweetwater is one of those companies that really does it right. It's about the people. Either way, if you buy directly from Strymon or from Sweetwater, you will get great customer support.

The Best Sounding Reverb Out There

By David from Ohio on November 4, 2021

Why write about a pedal that has been out 8 years (at the time of writing) and has one of the highest number of reviews for a pedal at Sweetwater? Because the BigSky still remains the best sounding reverb stomp box out there.

I see some talk on forums asking if this pedal is "out of date," and I get it – 8 years can be long for a digital pedal. Algorithms get better all the time. But this remains the top, and for good reason: despite some other pedals that have an easier to operate user interface (although this one's isn't nearly as complicated as some people fear), the sounds on the BigSky haven't been topped. Honestly, I don't know if they can be...sure, some other reverbs offer slightly different sounds, but not necessarily better ones. Take the Strymon Flint: it can do some things that don't sound exactly like the algorithms on the BigSky, but the same can obviously be said the other way around.

If the thing holding you back is a hope for an updated version or the next big thing from another manufacturer, I wouldn't waste your time. Why wait for something that hasn't been invented yet? This isn't like a TV, where you know the technology has a set way of improving (4K, 8K, etc.). If a better reverb exists, NO one has heard it yet on any albums, any songs, any tours, any gigs..anything. Again, there may be different sounds out there and coming in the future, but different doesn't equal better.

Grab this ASAP.

Covers Every Reverb and then some

By Tim from VA on September 22, 2021 Music Background: 20 year guitar player

If you need a reverb pedal this will definitely cover it for you. With 300 presets you will definitely find something to fit your style and needs. The tweaker in me has been having loads of fun creating and editing reverbs to make them perfect to my ear but there are so many presets that are ready to go for all types of music.

Wonderful

By Nicholas Ghanbari from Wichita Falls, TX on August 4, 2021

This pedal is amazing, plain & simple. I was instantly energized in playing through my repertoire when plugging this thing in for the first time. The control knobs allow for creative combinations that make unique sounds I've never before seen in a reverb pedal. There are several creative presets that I instantly knew I could use. All in all, it's an amazing, majestic sounding pedal that is definitely gonna be on my pedal board for a long time coming.

Love it

Been using it for a Church pedal board . Love all the sounds I can get

Guitar Heaven

By Samuel Wenger from AK on May 24, 2021

This pedal is a monster in every way! The tones that thing produces are like none other. I play in church and we had a Blue sky and a Timeline and it belonged to someone else and they took it with them when they moved so the church purchased a HOF and some Boss pedals to replace it but after having the Strymon sound I was always trying to dial it on these other pedals but never could quite get that sweet sound again. Well I have it once again and in a really Big Sky way! Though pricey, this pedal does what 3 other pedals combined can do so really it is not that pricey when you compare it. The Strymon quality is unparalleled AND made in the USA! This is the pedal of all pedals for creating that Heavenly atmosphere. Just strumming a chord on the cloud setting is like floating on air. I am still just digging in to all this pedal can do and so glad I got it as I progress in my guitar playing journey. The BigSky will be right along with me all the way. Do yourself a favor and get one, you won't ever regret it and it's so worth every penny. I guess I'll stop writing it's accolades now.:)

Best sounding reverb effects on the planet!

Worth It!

By Brandon on April 17, 2021

It's hard to overstate how great this pedal sounds. I recently jumped back into playing electric guitar for worship and it the atmosphere it creates is incredible - it elevates everything I'm playing without being distracting or artificial-sounding. Nothing sounds quite like it. So good!

This is so much more than just another reverb pedal. It's a gateway to new worlds! Makes me one happy explorer

Stellar

By Nate from MT on February 19, 2021

Spendy but incredible. A shredder over in the UK named Rabea has a YouTube channel and did an extensive rundown on this pedal that pretty much sealed the deal for me, so if you're on the fence about it, maybe check that out. My main question was, if my amp already has a nice sounding reverb, and my delay pedal has a nice sounding reverb, how much reverb do I really need? The answer to that may be different for each player, but this one has so many tonal possibilities, I immediately started playing a chord progression I had never played before when I first started turning knobs on this thing and the inspiration from this pedal continues. My favorite knobs on the big sky are the predelay and tone because they allow me to sculpt the different reverb types into some extremely useful settings, like the shimmer type for instance. That reverb type has always kind of annoyed me and sounded cheesy to my ears, but I now use it quite often thanks to all the dials on the big sky.

The best stomp reverb unit!

By Sweetwater Customer on November 28, 2020 Music Background: Musician, songwriter, producer

For years I have used Line 6 Helix units and they have great sounding reverb blocks. I have never used the external Fx loops on these modelers but after reading some of the reviews and articles online, I decided to try the Strymon BigSky. I was blown away and now own 2 BigSkys. This also frees up resources on my Helix to add other Fx blocks, as reverbs generally use up a lot of processing power. My favorite is the "Cloud" patch, it's like taking a lush reverb and immersing in a lake!

Best Reverb pedal...PERIOD!

By Patrick Rock from North Carolina on September 6, 2020 Music Background: Singer/songwriter/producer

So versatile...so much possible...i've gotten inspired to write just because the sounds i've gotten from this pedal. Big Sky is now a mainstay on my pedalboard...and will continue to be.

Best reverb pedal and reliable

By Sweetwater Customer on September 2, 2020

Definitely pricy but there is a reason why this is on so many pedalboards. Ton of tonal options, midi capability, and reliability.

Hey, skeptics. I used to be just like you.

By Tanner Slice from Liberty, SC on June 23, 2020

No way could a reverb pedal be worth this much money, I said. It's not THAT much better than the others, I said. I don't need this, I said. But I needed more from my 'verbs, watched Strymon's BigSky YouTube videos one too many times and pulled the trigger, fully ready to return it if I didn't think it was worth it. Yeah...any thoughts of returning it pretty much evaporated instantly after the first chord. Forget the controls and options: this thing just sounds GREAT. Each mode is absolutely incredible. Some highlights from me: the Spring DSP is the best I've ever heard, Bloom and Cloud are simply gorgeous with nigh-endless sustain if you want it, Swell can swell just the 'verb OR the 'verb plus your dry (very useful), and Shimmer and Chorale sound terrific in the right situations. Simply put, the BigSky is best-sounding reverb I have ever played and it has all the control you need: MIDI, tons of presets, EXP control over any parameter, you name it. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! The Cab Filter is the unsung hero of the pedal. There are no controls on it but it just sounds GOOD when you go direct. It will seriously clean up your dirt without an amp. So all in all, it simply doesn't get much better than the BigSky. It deserves all the considerable hype it gets and it's worth every penny if you need a versatile, beautiful and high-quality reverb.

Everything I hoped for and more.

By Chris LaRue from Oklahoma on June 10, 2020 Music Background: amazing

Unbelievable reverb. Highly recommended.

Deepest reverb depths

By Sweetwater Customer on May 27, 2020

So many parameters. The Big Sky box by Strymon is absolutely lovely in every way. Just going through the presets and closing my eyes takes me far away. I'm using the big sky for synthesizers and playin melodic bass lines high up the neck.

Worth Every Penny!

By Ozman from Dallas, TX on May 15, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist, Home Recording

I did a lot of research over several months and thought long and hard whether to shell out the money for this pedal. The thought of spending almost $... for a pedal was not taken lightly. However, this is by far the best pedal I have heard or played through. The lushness and variety of sounds from this pedal is almost overwhelming. Using the Big Sky is a journey not a destination due to the myriad of options and controls. It sounds fantastic through an amp. I do home recording and I plug it in directly (stereo) into Logic Pro X and it sounds amazing on recordings. It does a bit of time and experimentation to understand how best to the sounds you want. The thing that is impressive is that you can plug in your guitar without any other effects and the sound from the Strymon is pretty fantastic. To say this is a reverb pedal alone mischaracterizes the uses for this pedal. If I could only own one effect, this would be it.

The Undisputed King of Reverb Pedals!

By Sweetwater Customer on May 7, 2020

I can't even begin to tell you just how many reverb pedals I've gone through. I've owned too many to list here (both entry level and high end/boutique), but the BigSky just stomps all over everything out there. Yes, the BigSky is pricey, but it's completely worth it! Running the Cloud mode in stereo really is like floating on clouds. No wonder they called it BigSky. ;)

STRYMON BIG SKY!

By James M Huneycutt from North Little Rock, AR on April 20, 2020 Music Background: Self taught, just play at home!

Awesome Reverb pedal! Strymon has got it together. This is the state of the art in a reverb pedal with unlimited variables. I would highly recommend this pedal, along with other pedals by strymon. I also own a Timeline delay, and a Riverside overdrive! Thumbs up, these are great pedals!

So satisfying

By Dmax on April 14, 2020 Music Background: Jammin’

Browsed all the reverbs of similar price/ quality for months, and when listening to the demos my ears always were most satisfied with the strymon. I finally purchased this and have only began to dig into its many reverbs and am already blown away at the quality and enhancement it has added to my sound. There are so many fine details to the reverbs and controls to shape them its amazing.

This pedal has been out for a decade now and it still is preferred over the new items recently developed. Wonderful build strymon!

Best Pedal you will ever purchase

By Dystin Dunn from Gordo, AL on April 3, 2020

This was what got me into pedals on acoustic guitar. This will make you fall in love with your music even if you are still a beginner. It is great for electric guitar but i prefer it for acoustic honestly. It really improves my sound from anything from Worship music, to old school rock. Seriously, get one!

Crystal Clear Reverb on the Floor

By Frank R. from Vermont on November 13, 2019 Music Background: Singer/Songwriter, Guitarist, Vocalist, Worship Leader

I've been eyeing the Strymon BigSky for a while, now. As an acoustic guitar player, I wasn't sure about such a feature-rich pedal that would probably only get 2-3 patches of use from me—seemed like maybe a smaller purchase would be more ideal. Talking to Randy (my sales associate), he said something that stuck with me: "It's probably the last reverb pedal you'll ever need."

I bit the bullet and bought the BigSky. Since having it, the versatility is incredible. I thought it would just be pretty pedal reverbs, but I've actually used it in my studio to do vocal reverb, keys reverb, acoustic guitar reverb, and electric guitar reverb.

One feature that I didn't imagine would be so useful was the "freeze/infinite" feature. As a worship leader, there are frequently "dead spots" between songs, and, when I don't have a keys player to lay down something while I change keys or throw a capo on, it would just be an awkward transition. With the BigSky, I'm able to strum a closing chord, then press and hold the present button to give myself a gorgeous, sustained pad. Then, I switch my capo and start the next song, releasing the pedal on first strum, and the lingering pad fades out and the transition is perfect.

I'd pay the price again for that feature alone!

Reverb that Rules them all

By Robert from South Texas on October 3, 2019 Music Background: Gigging,Studio recording muscian

I think one of the most used effects used is Reverb, I have a lot of pedals and plugins and the BIG Sky Reverb is one that will get used the most it has so many hidden futures plus a few I discovered just digging around in the parameter settings, I have a few Lexicon and Eventide units that do very well but for a pedal form reverb this unit by far exceeds all the rest, the control you have at your finger tips is unmatched and being able to save your creation is icing on the cake, I have used a lot of reverb pedals for number of years and have looked deep in to all the others Big Sky is one you will not want to pass up. It has so much to offer its basically a Rack unit in a pedal. Each preset has way more in them than you can find from any demos online, I was shock at the things it does that were never covered from YouTube demos or online Audio clips. I waited over a year deciding to buy it, I'm overwhelmed, so glad I bought it

You get what you pay for

By Josh Allen from USA on September 29, 2019 Music Background: Mostly hobbyist, occasionally professional.

Yes, this is a pricey pedal, but it is worth it. If you're looking for a wide array of reverb types, with the ability to tweak them to get the precise reverb sound you're looking for, this is your pedal. And unless you're looking for some very specific sound that's inherent to a specific reverb pedal out there (in which case you'd only get that specific sound with that specific pedal anyway), I can't imagine why you'd never need any other reverb pedal. There are all kinds of videos and demos for this pedal online, so the proof is in the pudding. And of course it only sounds that much better when you're playing one for yourself rather than hearing someone else play through your computer speakers.

It does seem a little tricky to work at first, but once you start to use the pedal for a while, you find that it's very easy to use. And I also recommend going to YouTube and looking up videos related to this pedal. This is the fastest way to learn how to use this pedal. And while I wish the pedal came with an actual paper manual, you can find it online just by Googling for Strymon Big Sky Manual. No big deal.

I also dig the look for his pedal. It's sleek, sharp, and basic. I love it. I like the color too. And the construction quality seems on point and solid. Everything works as you'd expect it to.

I've owned this pedal for about a month. I play with it all the time and I'm always getting new sounds out of it. There are 12 types of reverbs and each one has multiple parameters you can tweak. It has a crazy amount of possible sounds to play with. Like I said before, you'll never need another reverb pedal. I was so impressed with this product that I've actually just ordered the Strymon Timeline delay pedal... I'm super excited about it. They are very pricey but I've been saving all year for some gear. And in musical equipment, you usually get what you pay for. It's better to save up more and wait longer to get quality products rather than buying something cheap. Quality instruments and gear make a huge difference in how much fun it is to play music as well as the quality of the music you're able to create.

It"s everything I had heard it was and more. Best reverb pedal ever and I have tried them all. I know it"s expensive but is well worth it. The search is over I am more than satisfied. Buy it you won"t be disappointed.

Unreal.

By Chris from Fort Washington, PA on August 18, 2019

So, I hesitated for quite some time, re: Strymon stuff. I was initially a hater, because I thought the pedals were overpriced.

A few months back, Sweetwater offered a 6-month payment plan thing (temporary) for any gear. So I was thinking, "Can I afford $... a month added to my monthly bills? No, but I'm doing it, anyway."

I have only tested the pedal once, for about 45 minutes. And every second was bliss. I went through the 99 factory presets and every. single. preset. was gorgeous. I had the headphones on, telecaster directly into the pedal and nothing more... recorded all the improvising to listen to later.

This thing is.... unreal.

To me, well worth the price tag. It literally does every single reverb and ambience/dreaminess you could ever think of or imagine. And you can freeze the reverb tails (I think all of them can be frozen, like the way the EHZ Freeze pedal works)... utterly unbelievable. I need to spend more time with it, and also with synths into it.

If you want the best, get the best. Any mid-level electric guitar costs more than this pedal, so again, I feel it's a bargain.

Made/built in the USA, and it's LIGHT too (oddly). I love the color, the design, everything. It is the go-to reverb for basically everything... live, studio.. everything.

Put headphones on, and watch the good YouTube demos.... and people like Jon Carolino and Andy Othling (Lowercase Noises). You'll be sold.

It's the best

By Lance Z from Maryland on July 6, 2019

There's a reason the BigSky is priced this way: it's the best. I think I've had everything, including several (I think 5? at different times) of the highest-end Fractal products, though not the III. The BigSky is a wonder to itself. I use it in the studio, and would easily use it in a MIDI-ready gig rig if I could afford to buy another. For this price point, even the H9 Max doesn't compare. Yes, the H9 can do a lot. But the sound quality and dimensionality of the BigSky is in a league to itself. It's the best of the best reverbs, in my opinion. Nowadays, In the studio, I use a makeshift "Fractal", consisting of a Marshall JVM410JS into a UA OX, then into the Strymon "big three" in series: Morbius, TimeLine, and BigSky. The big Strymon pedals are expensive, but they are worth it, and they've aged amazingly well. A lot of pedals can do reverb, but they can't touch the BigSky in my experience -- and I've done tons of experimenting over the years and recently. If you're looking for the top-of-the-mountain reverb for studio or live, this is it! :)

The Best pedal I've ever owned

By Dave P from Oregon on June 25, 2019 Music Background: professional musician

if you are looking for a universe full of reverb effects that sound amazing buy this pedal. It is an amazing unit so well made.
The quick start leaflet that comes with it doesn't being to scratch the surface of what this thing is capable of. There is a link to down load the full user manual in .pdf format I suggest you download it because without it you'll be lost. There's no bluffing your way thru this unit. It has a definite learning curve to it. I think the user manual could use a bit more clarification on the parameters in general, they sorta take your knowledge for granted just a wee bit methinks? Just experimenting with it will get you where you want to go and use the manual for a backup that's my suggestions. I am going to buy the Timeline and the expansion pedal too. These units are just too good to pass up.

Worth The Price

By Micah from Maryland on June 17, 2019

A big hurdle to get over, the $... price point. I thought about getting this pedal for a few years, actually. About 2 months ago I finally took the plunge and I can say that it was worth the price of entry. From a simple room reverb all the way to the Cloud setting, it nails all of the sounds that you hear in your head. Infinitely variable, you can and will get lost for hours in this box and you will enjoy every second of it.

IN-SANE Pedal Just IN-SANE !

By John from Detroit on May 25, 2019

Can I give this pedal 10 stars?
I was NOT a Strymon fan. Owned a Deco and couple other Strymon pedals and while their quality and effects were top notch, there was something that just didn't click - perhaps I felt they were too "digital" or too "precise" maybe it was just the brush aluminum look - which to me looks sorta cold.
Ok, so the Big Sky has changed all that! The pedal is IN-SANE! The tone and quality of it are just mind blowing. When I first saw the Big Sky and the price, I scoffed and thought "No Way..who would pay that much?". Well, I am sooo glad I did - it's worth every penny & more. This is THE definitive pedal for Reverb and related effects. To be able to hear the amazing tones your playing (or singing) will be enhanced by the Big Sky, you will realize $400+ seems cheap for capturing magic in a bottle (pedal).
You will NOT be disappointed. Save your pennies or sell a kidney ... the Big Sky is worth it:-)

Acoustic Bliss!

By Travis Tad Russell on May 9, 2019 Music Background: 38 years experience/playing Professional

After a few years of using 3 of the Eventide H9"s I"ve finally tried the BigSky. Now I knew it was great for electric guitar but not a lot of reviews on acoustic. So I took the leap and WOW! This this is a beast! Easy to use, easy to tweak, heavenly sounds! Just a few weeks in and I"ve already got 12 presets that I tweaked. From very basic room to a wash of reverb gooeyness. I can have the acoustic up front in the mix or laid back and dreamy. If you are looking for a great reverb for your live acoustic playing, take the leap and get this! I"ve tried so many and just never found one that got close to covering a lot of sounds, with the exception for the H9"s but they never sounded warm no matter what I did and trust me I spent many many weeks and hours trying. But the BigSky from the first time I plugged in I knew it was a keeper!

GOAT Reverb

By Rob from Los Angeles on April 29, 2019 Music Background: Professional

What else is there to say that hasn't already been said? It's the best, most versatile Reverb processor I've ever used by a country mile. Better than Eventide, better than Helix, better than the best Fender spring amp, better than an airport hangar a quarter mile deep by a quarter mile wide made entirely of concrete, it's the most legendary Reverb sound possible that is adjustable to fractions of perameters. I can't imagine a better reverb ever being made. If you have the money and you're looking for an answer-all reverb solution, don't hesitate.

This reverb is the greatest!!

By Paul from Mount Union, PA on April 10, 2019 Music Background: Singer, Musician, Songwriter, Recording Engineer, Studio Owner

I first ordered a Blue Sky and was so impressed that I had to have the Big Sky, so I made the exchange and am glad I did. Don't get me wrong the Blue Sky is great but the Big Sky is even greater. I didn't realize that reverb's could be made to sound like so many different things and the fullness, and sustain, and flexibility are unmatched. This is now my favorite pedal, I can't stop using it! Don't think twice, but it now, you won't be sorry! My rig is 2, Bose L1 model 2 systems with 2 B2 bass subs for each, PRS guitars and a Martin HD28E and a Vox 15 amp with blue alnico. Sounds awesome through everything! Also a special thanks to Chuck and Kurt Martin for all their help. I will be back!

Best Reverb

Amazing reverb
 Sounds very real
 Worth the investment
In my opinion, one of the tools that must be in every studio.
It does not have to be used only for the guitar.
This can be connected to the synthesizer,
And the possibilities are endless...

warmly recommended!!!

Get locked in a pool of space and time

By Michelle T from Florida on February 20, 2019 Music Background: Singer Songwriter Performer

I HIGHLY recommend this pedal to anyone who adores sound and experimenting. As a female I was a little intimated by some online reviews regarding the supposed difficulty level but took the plunge. It was a choice between blue sky and big sky. I went for BIG SKY because I wanted to carve my sounds and have more control over that. For one thing, its very fun to play & hear my guitar sound blend with other sounds & backing tracks & other guitars & diverse types of music and others peoples FX etc and this comes in handy if you play on stage (church, venues, home, etc) because you can "blend" thickness or thinness with all the other guys and background tracks. I love jamming along with this thing and being able to blend or STAND OUT (with class) with anyone and anything. The actual sounds? Paleaze. This thing is a ROLLS ROYCE in my opinion! Its so lush, smooth, and velvety. It completely slips my mind even after hours of playing guitar because it just provides such amazing sound scapes! I go into a time warp! The sound quality is just incredible! The engineers at Strymon are sound geniuses!!! I am picky and this beautiful pedal makes me so glad I dropped almost $500. I hate spending but this was well worth it. Even just having it on the back end of my Boss GT 10 enhances everything including grit. Alone or daisy chained- my favorite pedal. Just depends what you want to do but seriousy!? The SKY"S THE LIMIT! HA! I am having serious GAS over the newest one VOLONTE DELAY PEDAL ... I love hate you Strymon! Just kidding I love you... You make me sound waaaaay better! Thank you!!!

Worth the money!

By Robert from Texas on February 20, 2019 Music Background: Semi-pro session guitarist

There is still a ton of stuff that this reverb will do that I haven"t got to try yet but of the things I"ve used at rehearsal and practice so far have been amazing! I tried to talk myself out of buying this for years because of the cost, bought other reverbs and always wanted something it didn"t offer or wasn"t really happy with the sound I was getting. I also used the excuse that I hate menus and not super easily tweakae pedals to avoid spending the money on this. I wound up buying a Volante first and I was SO blown away by that pedal and all of its capabilities and great sound that I finally hit the bullet, bought a big sky and WOW am I glad I did! The thing is pretty easy to operate, very easy to dial in the sounds you want and if you like what you"ve dialed in you can save it as a preset. I since have wired up the volante and big sky in stereo running to two amps and that has been incredible but an even bigger plus is that there is a switch on the big sky go turn on a cab emulation filter for direct to house, recording or headphones and it really sounds pretty darn good! Some of the best tone through headphones I"ve ever heard!
If you"ve even toyed with the thought of dropping the cash on one of these it is definitely worth it, from a light touch of adding depth to your guitar all the way to extreme ambient spa music stuff this thing makes it easy and sounds so beautiful!

Take the plunge!

By Sven from Brooklyn, New York on January 24, 2019 Music Background: Former touring musician, current studio musician

I've been spending a lot of time optimizing a multi-amp stereo rig in my studio centered around a pair of Mesa Boogie Triple Crown amps, and using effects both in the preamp section and effects loop. The Big Sky is the secret ingredient to getting that huge, expansive ocean of sound I've been chasing for so long. It's studio rack-mount grade sound quality, but with most of the controls conveniently handy in twist knob form (such a relief to those of us who get impatient tweaking numeric perimeters on an HX Effects, for example.) The unit is so beautifully made it just invites you to spend time messing around with it. So take that plunge and jump into the Strymon ocean, it's expensive but well worth it! And by the way huge thanks to Carl Bleke at Sweetwater who's been an invaluable partner in setting up my entire rig, from great advice along the way to very patient help in troubleshooting signal path issues. Sweetwater really is the best choice especially when it comes to service and support, I can't thank Carl enough for all the help.

Lovely, Simple, and Beautiful

By Jedediah Ghouled from Wichita on December 23, 2018 Music Background: Long time hobbyist

I'm a keyboardist who deals with a number of knobs and wires already, so the tedium of dialing in sweet spots on the RV-500 on top of the raw sound design sapped a great of time from should've been spent actually playing.
I decided to try the BigSky because the online forums had suggested it was more of an "ease of use" pedal vs. tweaker's paradise. In that respect, the forums are correct. This pedal is definitely easy to get your head around and quick to use. Best of all, it plays well with my equipment and sounds phenomenal regardless of what I do with it.
Do I miss the additional functionality of the RV? Not really. I think the folks have confused direct utility with somehow being less and that is where I feel their advice is misguided. Granted, a synthesizer nut like myself has access to more modulation options outside of a reverb unit than would a guitarist, but again, my preference is to have a good reverb ready for the sounds I've made and not have to try and find one. The glowing reviews on here aren't wrong and I too heartily recommend the BigSky

Big Sky

By Jason from South Carolina on December 2, 2018 Music Background: Weekend Warrior

I needed a reverb pedal for my new high gain Randall Amp. I never bought an amp that didn"t come with one! Lol! So I shopped different brands on the Sweetwater.com. Best place to shop!!! I ended up you tubing the Strymon Blue Sky. Then the Big Sky. I originally had NO IDEA how much I was going to spend or even exactly knew what type of reverb I wanted! Well, I decided to buy the Strymon Big Sky!! I will NEVER regret this since it opens up so many doors in guitar playing that I will be playing it for the rest of my life with infinite possibilities!!! I will strongly suggest this reverb pedal if you want the most incredible and moving music experience!! I prefer to use this on the clean channel mostly hooked into the effects loop on my amp head. I like to use this along with the EVH Stereo Chorus pedal for enhanced sound!! I also prefer using an Ibanez tube screamer and or the EVH 5150 pedal for distortion and overdrive on the clean channel! Wow!! And I havnt used all the parameters yet! It"s so unbelievable!!! I love this product so much that it deserves 100 stars and has enhanced my playing so much I could faint!!! My most excellent sales person is Nate Burkhardt. He knows his music gear and is so cool!!!

Absolutely Worth Every Penny

By Rick Falco from Canton, GA on November 27, 2018 Music Background: Americana, Rock, Funk

I never understood what all the hype was for Strymon pedals. Then a few weeks ago my friend started sending me demo videos that I "had to" check out. I got hooked on watching those, so I finally ordered a Big Sky to replace my TC Hall of Fame 2. Well..... the first night with this pedal, I played for probably 6 straight hours. I am completely blown away not only at the amount of different mind blowing reverb types, but the sound quality is something that has to be heard to be believed. It sounds like a blanket was taken off of my amp setup. I"ve already ordered a Timeline to go with this, and I know these 2 will never be replaced unless Strymon updates to something even better in the future. Just buy it already, and you will not be disappointed.

Big Sounds Galore

By Haywood Jablowmey from Nevada on November 13, 2018 Music Background: Musical Director/Performer

Old PCM70 fan, never could afford the Bricasti M7 so I bought 4 x Strymons.
Big Sky is as good in sound quality as anything in a rack or DSP Console, even better due to algorithms x 10.
I use these on Samples and a Code 8.
Nothing else like it.

Big Sky for Big Reverb

By Joe M from Santa Cruz, CA on November 3, 2018 Music Background: Keyboardist, pianist, guitarist, and composer since the '60s.

The Big Sky reverb is what I needed for my Moog Sub 37. It adds so much richness and full sound to the synth that it is like another instrument. Used for my guitar as well and for an additional effects unit for the Nord Electro. But mainly used for enhancing the sounds of the Moog.

Another one blown away......

By Curtis from Seattle, WA on October 24, 2018

Well, read the other reviews, but if it will save you time, here's the thing:

If you can afford it, and have a need for lots of gorgeous, lush, and studio grade reverb in a stomp box, then buy this. Maybe the competition is as good, but I bought this and it is worth it. Worth using in the studio as well as onstage. Lush and smooth. Natural or bizarre. I love this reverb.

There are cheaper alternatives that are nearly as good, but not so many at such high quality with so much inside. Very powerful DSP in the Big Sky, and you can hear the quality.

I have The Strymon Timeline and now I"ve added the Big Sky. I can"t put my guitar down I"m having so much fun. The ability to tweak and create Big ambient sound or the perfect spring reverb to go along with your overdrive or distortion. As well as so much more! It"s pricey but it lives up to its price tag.

I haven"t even stretched the surface of all the different settings. This is my first strymon pedal, Definitely a staple on the board. Ken was very kind and helpful.

The Hype is real

By Brian Saltos from Bronx, NY on September 6, 2018 Music Background: Band Director/Church

I've been hearing so many reviews about this pedal online and have to say they don't exaggerate the sound this thing makes. I was looking to get a reverb pedal for about a year now and held off due to some other interests. Finally after seeing countless videos and hearing so many audio samples I figured let me just get it.

This one little box is extremely versatile. It can do anything from providing subtle sweeps, provide small ambient fills to sounding like something out of this world. The range of reverbs provided fit pretty much any need a player may be seeking. One of my favorite reverbs on this thing is the Bloom and Shimmer. I've heard shimmers on many other pedals but this one is great in that there is so many ways to tweak the effect. Other pedals in my opinion provide a similar sound but don't provide the means to customize the effect as much as the Bigsky.

Hands down my favorite reverb pedal. Big thanks to Cody Kraus for all his help. Originally almost ended up loosing this package in transit. Called Cody and he was able to send a replacement in a heart beat. In the end I ended up getting both of them and was about to send one back. But I loved this thing so much that I figured I can't be the only to have one. Called Cody and asked if he could process another payment for the replacement to sow it into another persons life and no issues there. Looking forward to using this for personal recordings and for that church ambient sound.

Thanks again Cody!!!!!

Amazing Reverb

I love this thing. This is the only pedal on my acoustic pedalboard that really changes my sound (I've got a tuner, volume pedal, looper, eq, etc.). Everything that I want to get in terms of reverb is easy to do after I read the manual. I use it for subtle reverb (which it can certainly do) as well as for thick and light sounds.

Reverb Bliss!

By Jeff Lehman from Laconia, Indiana on July 14, 2018 Music Background: Amateur Home Sound Engineer

There's a reason this pedal has been a top seller for so many years...it has the ability to produce beautiful reverb that is either subtle, or out of this world. The large number of presets is also a great asset for those who like to tweak, and don't want to remember knob positions.

You cannot go wrong with this pedal!

Great

By Rob from Huntsville AL on July 6, 2018 Music Background: Worship

Best for what I need. I"ve owned it three times now. I"m constantly looking for a better/ more compact rig. If you don"t need many presets a Neunaber Expanse sounds just as good if not a touch better. (Still use it for my acoustic rig) If you need / want a lot of presets and total control right on the pedal, Big Sky is the one.

High Quality Reverb

By Uwe Kruger from North Wilkesboro, NC on June 12, 2018 Music Background: Guitar and Vocals at KrugerBrothers, Producer for DoubleTime, inc.

I got my BigSky just a week ago, and so I am not really very familiar with the unit yet. The possibilities this pedal offers are vast, and I am certain that I will spend a good amount of time with it until it is fully integrated into my sound. The BigSky is not a plug-and-play pedal, and it helps that I have spent some time in professional studios since I started recording my music in 1982. I run it in front of a couple of Fender amps (Princeton Reverb, Deluxe Reverb) for my Tele and Strat, and a Spacestation 3-D and a Tonedexter for my Custom Collings D-1, D-2 and LT-360 JM. The quality of reverb I get so far is nothing short of spectacular. The people at Strymon really have nailed the classic rackmount reverb sounds that I grew up with, Hall, Room, Plate or Spring, and the presets give me some ideas of the endless possibilities the BigSky offers. But as complicated as the machine looks, it really is easy to work with. It took me just a few minutes with the manual after installing the unit on my pedalboard to find a natural sounding hall, spacious and clean. Saving the settings is a breeze, too. It is expensive, yes, but quality comes with a price, and for the BigSky the expenditure is justified. It sounds better than any other portable reverb unit I have owned in the past, and is easier to run than most rackmount reverbs I have used in Studios. I can't wait to get it to the studio and record with it.

Last reverb I’ll ever buy

By Joshua Metzger from Muscatine, Iowa on April 15, 2018 Music Background: Musician , production engineer

I"ve read a lot of threads saying the bigsky was overrated and hyperbole and instead bought the flint when they could have had the last reverb they would ever need, and have way more control and styles of reverb then any other reverb pedal on the market . Every single reverb Fx on this pedal is natural and inspiring to my ears . Why buy 4, or 5 reverb pedals that are oookay, when you can have one reverb that does it all and does it better then any other reverb pedal out there ? The voices the bigsky produce are like angels voices decending from the heavens , this is the sound I"ve been chasing for a long time and I own tons of reverb pedals , which I most likely won"t use anymore . The reverb from the bigsky is 3-D and also my guitar tone stays intact which is detrimental to any fx being used . Don"t settle for less , I"m now considering getting the timeline next :) I asked Pete Thorn about Strymon products and he claims there isn"t a Strymon product he used that didn"t sound good , and Pete Thorn knows his stuff . Do yourself a favor and get the Strymon Bigsky...

I have no words to describe the pedal. Thank you a hundred-fold for this Sweetwater. You stayed true to your word because I did receive it on time! Even though I don't know how to use it, just by simply looking at the pedal gives me butterflies in my stomach; and, implicitly, it is even worse when I play. Then again, it is very compact to me because it looks bigger in the pictures but it is JUST PERFECT size (which is smaller) in person. THANK YOU SWEETWATER for your service. I will order another pedal from your quality customer service soon. I also loved how they treated me on the phone! Thanks Jason for your support. I give Sweetwater a big 2 thumbs up! THANK YOU--for the pedal that I don't deserve.

Go With Sweetwater, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!

By Craig W. Ledford from North Carolina on January 11, 2018

I work with the ministry, "JC & Company," as a Praise and Worship Leader. In December, of 2017, I began searching for an additional effects unit that I could use to enhance the gospel songs that I sing and play on guitar. Currently, I use the TC Helicon, "Play Acoustic Vocal Harmonizer," and run into a Turbosound ip2000. This works perfect as the Play Acoustic has a left and right output and the Turbosound has a left and right input. I connect my iPad, with my backing tracks, into the back of the TC Helicon.
I knew that, if I added an effects unit (pedal), in line with the TC Helicon Play Acoustic, it could possibly muddy the dry vocal signal that is being tracked when entering the Play Acoustic, thus, producing unstable harmonies. I had to figure out a way to use my current setup and add an effects unit that could be used separate, or in conjunction, with my current TC Helicon unit while still maintaining a separate signal path.
I was looking at pedals on You Tube and ran across the Strymon Big Sky Multidimensional Reverb Pedal. I began looking at videos of this unit being used and was blown away regarding the sound quality! My next step was to check the pedal out at Sweetwater.
With the help of my sales rep, Mr. Mark Bruhn, I purchased a Morley A-B-Y switch, Mackie 802 VLZ4 Compact Mixer, Strymon Big Sky Reverberation Unit, and a Strymon Multi Switch. Now, I run the acoustic guitar into the Morley A-B-Y Switch. That signal sends out two separate signals with one going to the TC Helicon and the other signal going to the Strymon Big Sky. I send the TC Helicon (left and right) to channels one and two of the Mackie using TRS quarter inch line level connectors. The other signal from the Morley A-B-Y Switch goes to the left input of the Big Sky. From the Big Sky, I send both the left and right signals to channel three of the Mackie board via TS quarter inch line level connectors.
As stated, "There are NO limits!" The sound quality is awesome! The Strymon Big Sky adds so much support to the music. Since this is a "solo" ministry, I need all the help that I can get!
I wish to thank Mr. Mark Bruhn for his vast knowledge of audio equipment and willingness to listen to my needs and help me get the equipment that works correctly the first time! I knew the direction that I wanted to go, but Mark laid out the path! Also, I would like to thank Randi, Hugo, and Matt at Strymon for producing a truly great American made product that surpasses the sound quality of other units that I've heard! By the way, check out their complete lineup at Sweetwater. They produce a large selection of quality pedals.

Big sky for brass instruments

By Raymond M Thomas from Chicago Heights on November 18, 2017 Music Background: Performer and educator

This unit is probably overkill for most brass instruments, but I would rather have the extra room and extra options than to need them and not have them.. The flexibility of this unit allows you to tailor it to the needs of the unit to the instrument you are playing. I am still experimenting with different parameter options to see just how far I can stretch the usability of this unit.

I had it figured out in a matter of minutes. I highly recommend this and the Timeline delay pedal, no matter what genre of music you are into.

Amazing Reverb !!!!

By Sweetwater Customer on August 22, 2017

Best reverb pedal in the market in my believe. It has a high quality reverb that works on keyboards as well sounds amazing. The pedal has a Solid built quality. Also comes with a great infinite sustain or hold function if your thinking of buying it I recommend it.

Bigsky Strymon

By Sweetwater Customer on July 28, 2017

amazing! simply one of the best reverb processors available today.

You just think you've heard Reverb.

By Michael Howell from Texas on July 23, 2017 Music Background: Arm chair self proclaimed Professional Musician extraordinaire

I started playing guitar in 1969. I've heard all the original Fender and Vox and Marshall amps. I've had a multitude of reverb units either in the amps themselves or in the rack, over many decades. I have never heard better Verb's than Big Sky has, period. It's just what I expect Heaven to sound like. Luscious engaging and beautiful just does not do it, but that's the only words that even come close. Yea it's a bit expensive, and worth every cent. But it's not just a spring or plate reverb altho they are just to die for tone wise. It's a reverb effects unit that adds ideas to the workflow you have never thought of. If you are the least bit interested in this thing, Youtube it and just spend an hour listening. It's worth your time... Yea, I kinda like the Big Sky. Can you tell? ; )

Strymon Big Sky

By Chris from Miami Beach on July 22, 2017

Simply the best reverb pedal out there. So many options, from dead accurate classic reverbs to spacious, mind-blowing ethereal sounds. This pedal rivals many rackmount reverbs that go for thousands of dollars. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth every penny and a ton more. Easy to use, very intuitive with a fast learning curve. Just get it.

Put Your Head In The Big Sky

By Kevin from San Francisco on June 27, 2017

One of the hallmarks of Strymon’s engineering expertise is their ability to offer deep and complex programmability in a simple to use interface. The BigSky is no exception. The BigSky offers remarkably deep reverb sound designing prowess for those who want no less than the very best in stompbox and studio-grade reverb processing. It’s really worth spending some time with each reverb machine and delving into the different parameters to become familiar with what each has to offer. Strymon have thought about just about everything, making the BigSky one of the finest reverb pedals available.

This is my first Strymon pedal, and I'm still in awe of its tone, adaptability, and depth of sound. It's crafted in the USA, and in a league of its own. Best reverb pedal I've ever owned, and I've owned a few. Well worth the money! Sweetwater remains my go-to source for all musical "gear".

BIG REVERB!!!

By AudiosErgeon on June 19, 2017 Music Background: Enthusiast Audio Engineering

Just get it!!! No look no further. It's everything you need in reverb. Price is a bit BIG to but think of all the low budget reverbs and put them together and you still can't touch the unlimited pastabillities this thing has. Great for modular synthisizers Moog Mother32 etc.

The last Reverb pedal you'll ever need hands down!!!

Why are you even reading this?

By Leo from Bakersfield, California on May 18, 2017

Truth is that if you knew the quality and capabilities of this pedal, you wouldn't even have a need to check the reviews. You have probably watched YouTube videos already and then came to the best online musician superstore (Sweetwater) because you are entertaining the thought of buying it. Quit wasting your time! BUY IT! I've experimented with reverbs and I locked myself for starting cheap and at the bottom, moving up from one pedal to the next, only to finally arrive at the first and only one I should have had! The BigSky! I spent more money cycling through those pedals than I did buying the BigSky. I tell you what...if anyone has a negative review on here, they are on crack and don't know what the heck a reverb pedal does!

Beauty AND the Beast.

By Eli from Windber, Pa. on May 9, 2017 Music Background: Fusion/Jazz/Folk/Worship

So after countless YouTube videos and seeing some of my favorite artists use the BigSky, I knew there was something special to it; something that made it stand above the others. My previous delay was a T.C. Electronic HOF, and while it was a respectable reverb and did what it was supposed to do, I always felt like it was lacking something. So I eventually pulled the trigger on a BigSky to see if it really was THAT good. Well... it is. Wow. Every preset is just oozing with opportunity and inspiration. Even if you only want it for a simple spring or room reverb, I highly suggest that you dive a little deeper and experiment. This pedal brings out emotions and nuances to your playing that you didn't know existed. While I know there is a lot of hype built around these pedals, bear in mind it's there for a reason. This is a pedal built to stand the test of time. It makes you feel like your tone has just expanded to new levels that you could've never experienced before. It is worth every cent. The quality and power in this device is superior to anything else I've tried. The amount of presets at your feet are incredible, as well. Please take my advice, and the countless others on here and buy this. And if you don't have the money at the moment, it is worth saving up for. I promise you that.

This is the one

By Josh on April 17, 2017

I feel like it's probably a waste of time posting my review of this pedal considering how many 5 star reviews it already has, but here it goes.

This thing is just ridiculous! I mean that in a good way of course. It really has everything any guitar player needs in a reverb and I've tried tons of reverb pedals. For the people looking for the more traditional reverb sounds (room, spring, hall, plate, etc.), this is the best I've heard. For ambient guitar players, it will bring tears to your eyes. Like when you first watched The Green Mile:)

My favorites so far are the Bloom, Cloud, Chorale, and Nonlinear. What I love about this pedal is that you can really dial in exactly what you want from subtle to insane sounds on all reverb settings. Like one review I read said, I will only by another reverb pedal if Strymon tops this one.

I highly recommend getting the Strymon Mulitswitch pedal for this. You can set the tap tempo on the Nonlinear and the Magneto reverb settings which is awesome because they almost act like delays. Hope this helps!

The only reverb you'll ever need

Beautiful Sounding, Perfectly Functional Reverb

By James from Phoenix on April 2, 2017

Title says it all. Sounds incredible. Perfect layout and function. It's a lot of money to spend on a reverb, but it's worth every penny if you use verb a lot (and I do). Took no time to find the sounds I needed and save them for easy access. Haven't even delved into the MIDI functions yet... haven't had to. Great product concept and execution!

I didn't believe it...

By Sweetwater Customer on March 6, 2017

My brother purchased this for me. Every1 I know it seems has said "just get a big sky" or "That part would sound great through the big sky". I thought there was a lot of hype behind an overpriced multi digital reverb. I WAS SO WRONG! This pedal is worth it's weight in gold! Last Verb you will ever need! It has spurred the creative process as well as nails the staple sounds you have to have. Rock, country, worship, I've played it all and it sounds killer on all!

Big sky for the win

By Mark from Creston on February 17, 2017

I was hesitant to sell my beloved hardwire rv7 to help finance this purchase, but in the end I am very glad I did. The big sky does all the basic reverbs perfect, but also open doors of inspiration with amazing sounds. I knew it would good, I didn't think it would be this good. Amazed.

Any type of reverb you could imagine from small room ambient sounds to huge endless cavernous sounds and everything in between with a ton of programmable presets too. Just be sure you have a high output 9V power supply....I think it needs something like 300 mA. Fantastic sounding reverbs....worth every penny.

Excellent Reverb

By DW from CT on December 27, 2016 Music Background: A musician in my own mind for many years

1. The folks at Sweetwater are the best from my sales engineer Justin Sunday ext: 1966 who knows the gear very well and is a musician. Justin takes all the time that I NEED to get my questions answered I never feel rushed or pushed to purchase an item. Also I sent back an item and when it was received Sweetwater sent me an e-mail informing me that they had the return and I would see my refund in a few days. I also had an item that developed a problem and without hesitation Sweetwater sent me a new unit and a return label for the defective unit. Fantastic service from the sales, returns and technical folks. This is why I buy from Sweetwater.

2. There is a reason why in many reviews you read "it is not a Strymon but" for the Strymon BigSky Reverb creates amazing sounds. Each reverb has many parameters that can be easily adjusted that enable the user to create the sound they are thinking of or surprise you with a sound you created by trial and error. Yes it is a lot of $$ for a pedal but you get a lot for your money such as stereo in and out (great with keyboards) MIDI control and 200 user presets. The build quality, electronics and algorithms are top notch. The knobs rotate smoothly and make no clicking sound when pushed. The manual (printed from the Strymon web site) is very in depth with some advice for each reverb. I have been using mine with a Yamaha XF and could not be happier with the results.

3. I must also say that the folks at Strymon are great to deal with. I had a problem printing the manual for the Timeline and by the time I explained my problem Matt at Strymon had already sent me an e-mail with the manual in PDF format that I had no problem printing. They are also great at answering any questions you may have.

Heaven In A BOX

I will be using my BigSky for my new worship / Praise / Original band and can't wait for the audience reaction to these amazingly lush reverb algorithms. The best way to describe it is Heaven in a box!

There's more than enough voices in this baby to suit anyone and almost any genre. Built like a tank! Don't hesitate to purchase this as you will want to use it all the time.

Glad that Sweetwater is now carrying all the Strymon line. Win/win!

Awesome pedal

By David on September 23, 2016

This pedal has so much to offer. I use it paired with the boss ES-8 looper for midi chnges. I highly recommend, if you play live, to use a midi controller to harness all the power. You dont want to constantly be bending down between songs to move up 40 banks to get the sound you want. Because the 2 switch bank up 40 times is a bit annoying.

The Best Reverb Pedal Ever!!!!!

By Adam from Pennsylvania (PA) on September 20, 2016 Music Background: nothing special

This was my first purchase ever from sweetwater. Now I know that this pedal is pricey. However, if you can afford it you will not be disappointed. This pedal is worth twice as much money in my eyes. I am a reverb junkie who had a massive amount of pedals that I used. Within a week of using this I sold all of them. The only thing better than the pedal is the sweetwater experience. Phil is amazing. We talked for 30 minutes about this pedal and music in general. I felt like I was talking to someone that I had known for years. Thanks again sweetwater for putting the customer back in customer service.

Stellar reverb unit

By Mean old fireman from Boston on September 9, 2016 Music Background: Semi pro musician

I was a little hesitant shelling out as much coin as I did for this. After all, it's just reverb, right? The flexibility and ease of use are amazing. While the majority of the time I'm using a fairly straightforward sping, room or hall sound, having control over so many parameters really let's me get the sound I want, generally adding some space and avoiding mudding it up. I do occationally go for a more esoteric sound, and the Big Sky pulls those off flawlessly as well.

While it works well on a traditional pedalboard, you can really make it work for you with MIDI control (particularly if you're using more than 6 presets. If you rely on your amp for overdrive, you want it in the effects loop. I`m a guitar player, but it sounds like it would work well with keys as well.

Bottom line, if you're just looking for a basic unit to add some space, this is probably overkill. If you're looking for ultimate flexibility, innovative and creative sounds, precise control and ease of use in performance, thus us monet well spent.

Inspiring, amazing, clean reverb.

By Nick from CT on September 6, 2016 Music Background: Professional

What can I say that hasn't been said many times before? This Reverb is amazing. I use it both on a Moog Sub 37 going into JBL monitors and also for guitar in stereo with Clean amps. I also use it in the loop of a Friedman BE100 for just a bit of room or plate reverb. The results are perfect for all those applications. I would have bought this pedal just for the room and plate reverbs alone, that is how good and flexible they are. The pedal takes some getting used to with the bank switching. I wish you didn't have to step on two knobs at once to bank up and down. That is my only gripe. Otherwise it is very easy to program. I suggest using a high quality neutral sounding cable like a Mogami or something similar with this pedal to get every pure drop of its tone and not color the high end. The analog dry through design is great. I love how the original signal is not affected or colored, and it feels great to play through this pedal. Most Reverb's color the tone, squash it, or affect picking dynamics. This reverb sits right beside your signal and dose not interfere with your single notes or chords. It sounds almost 3D or HD like a wet/dry/wet setup does, but in an organic way. Even if you are a traditional reverb user and don't need the more spacious settings, this is worth it just for the room, plate, spring, hall and magneto settings, which can be both traditional or crazy if needed. I am sold on Strymon tone and quality for sure. Next up for me is the Timeline. Thanks to my Sales Engineer Michael Grebe for helping me choose this beauty. One of my best music gear purchases ever.

Epic

By Dave on September 2, 2016 Music Background: 20 years of play and production

When you want eternal environmental depth, breadth, and all of the space in between as you shape your sound...without lugging your DAW or a rack unit around....the buck stops here. I could gush for hours about what Strymon gave musicians when they engineered this pedal. For years I played in an aircraft hangar "imagine a catherdral with an interior covered in corrugated metal. The hangar created a huge reverb that I loved and could not accurately recreate until now. The best thing...is that it does not stop there....the possibilities are limitless. It's all in the name "Big Sky" from the troposphere to the exosphere and the outer reaches of space this thing has it. Brilliant.

Purely Magical!

By Ryan from St. Augustine, FL on August 27, 2016

Sold several pedals in order to buy this one, and it was the best thing I could have done for my pedal board. I love that there are so many amazing presets so that, right out of the box, the pedal is incredibly useful. Buttons are nice and don't have that annoying "click" sound, but it's still very easy to tell when you've pressed the button. Strymon has nailed it, and with the wide range of possibilities, this can act as so much more than a simple reverb pedal. Just make sure you have the correct power adapter since this does't run off your standard power supply. Excellent for worship music!

Studio Reverb at Your Feet!

By Jimmy P Brown II from Earth on August 27, 2016 Music Background: Professional

If you know true studio reverbs, not cheap plugins but real verbs, this pedal is going to blow your mind!

Plenty of types and variations to choose from...

MIDI capability is top notch!

Not enough can be said of this brilliant reverb effect! The price is the hardest hump to get over, until you plug it in... But hey, studios were saying the same thing in the 80's about $18K for the Lexicon 480L... But it became a staple... The Big Sky will become one as well for those who are absolute nuggets for reverb, and so much more!!!

Studio Standard

By Lucas from Miami on August 26, 2016 Music Background: Guitarist, Producer, Engineer

Man, I got this pedal before Sweetwater carried Strymon. This beast is a standard unit for multi-purpose studio and live use. First of all, the pedal is magic for guitar - let it be through an amplifier or using a DI recording rig. Even the cabinet filter switch on the back, by itself, is noteworthy and crucial for DI recording.

Plug in some synthesizers through it and you will get next level sounds. I barely even use presets because you can tweak the knobs to your heart's content. Sounds super wet. Stereo recording is a good call. So having the appropriate preamp, interface, or two guitar amps to plug into is a great move. I even called Strymon and they told me they record videos DI in stereo. Good stuff.

I am a guitar player, but I also engineer sessions recording vocals and other instruments. I did not like the Big Sky for vocals, but you can definitely run keyboards and different types of guitar rigs through it to get some awesome sounds. This is a standard pedal for guitarists. Most definitely one of the centerpieces of my rig. Always impresses clients and other musicians. I own other Strymon pedals and they are equally exceptional.

Best Reverb For Ambience, and Great Contender For The Rest

By Dave on July 28, 2016 Music Background: Hobbyist

The Timeline was my first Strymon pedal, and it impressed me so much I ended up getting 6 or 7 more Strymons. It is hard to pick a favorite, but this reverb is right up there.

There are pedals that sound good, and then there are pedals that you literally will write new music simply because you have the pedal. You could write entire albums with these sounds. They are amazing. They are magic. They are inspiring.

I have no complaints about this pedal aside from I wish it had wireless, or USB capabilities instead of using MIDI to transmit everything. But other than that this pedal is perfect.

Strymon only does Awesome!

By Kim Kelley from Texas on July 12, 2016

So, I am big fan of Strymon pedals. I've owned a few different ones in the past such as Blue Sky, Brigadier, OB.1, etc., and they were wonderful. I decided to break the bank and order a Big Sky and a Mobius to go with my Timeline and my DiG. I'm still learning all of the presets, and finding many of them to be very usable. Excellent sound quality, and I am now putting my new Neunaber WET Reverb pedal up for sale. Big thanks to Tyler Moore my sales engineer, for helping me get the order put together!

Have had this for about a month, very impressed and still learning new sounds and configurations. I feel this is a very good do it all reverb. Seems to handle all the basics reverb sounds well but really excels at the ambient sorta stuff and the bonus of being able to save the patches for quick recall is great. Strymon did great with this pedal. First time I've ever purchased from Sweetwater and definitely won't be the last. As others have said, customer service is great, they treat you as an individual not a number and far exceeds what I'm use to.

Nothing Else Like It

By Chris Gill from Goddard, KS on February 22, 2016 Music Background: Drummer, Pianist, Songwriter, Recording/Mixing Engineer, Live Sound Engineer

I'm not a guitarist, but I do love quality reverbs (which can be hard to find). A friend of mine (who is a VERY talented guitar player) was setting up for a session and I some pedals (Strymon) I didn't recognize. He gave me the rundown... and then he let me hear them. Heavenly. That's all there is to it. I NEVER commit guitar effects to tape, ever. Most pedal verbs and delays just don't hold up when it comes to recording. But now, I don't let him in my studio without his Strymon effects. If you're a guitar player that's looking for that massive sound scape, then the Strymon BigSky Multidimensional Reverb is for you!

Keeper

By Luke from Chicago on February 10, 2016 Music Background: Producer/Engineer

This pedal rocks. It was expensive but it always inspires new songs. A very creative unit.

It works well with guitar and synths. The cabinet filter is a key feature.

As far as the whole "studio quality" claim goes... I still use other reverb units (ie. digital plugs) for vocals and other applications. But for a guitar or synth player who wants a tactile, sexy reverb with a clean interface and a good cab filter this is the move. You can work the knobs like crazy and get next level sounds.

The best reverb pedal I've ever used

By Ben C from Atlanta, GA on February 8, 2016

I play primarily in contemporary worship settings and this pedal is perfect for that. It's incredible for washy, ambient swells, but it's also great if you need some subtle reverb as well. It smokes every other reverb pedal out of the water. The Big Sky is very easy to use and switch between different sounds.
I've waited a long time for Sweetwater to pick up Strymon. Strymon's warranty is only one year, but with Sweetwater you get a two year warranty. If you're looking for the best reverb pedal you can get, get this pedal!

This pedal not only looks great! it's just amazing. I usually nervous about using a lot of effects and I was looking at other small reverb pedals and lo and behold this came up on a search of best reverb pedals. I hesitated at first with the price but took a chance and so far, I'm not disappointed with the sounds. My only thing is learning to navigate the controls is challenging, but then it's a new thing and patience guess is the key. make no mistake this is a beast and stands along. the sounds are so beautiful and just makes your instrument sounds as if you are in the state-of-the-art venue or have the best amp system rig. nope it's just Big Sky. I feel like a kid with a new Christmas toy. this has lifted my flavor to create and inspire. thank you Sweetwater and best to Michael O. my salesman.

The big sky is a pedal it has ok sounds that might sound great for electric guitar
I tried one today for about an hour at a big box store
I have a nylon string guitar with a k&k pickup
I tried the hall , plate , .
It sounds ok not great like all the reviews .
It has a clean and clear sound .
I guess it possibly could sound great on electric .
All I could hear was the pedal , not the guitar .
My guitar sounds good , not bought but good , and the
Pedal takes over before the string quits sounding .
And I did try it out with predelay ..
I have a HOF , have tried EHX Holy grail oceans 11
, UA golden , blu sky big sky .several boss pedals and the fender marine layer .
And will try the newnabor soon .
The sounds of all these pedals do not justify the cost .just plain and mostly in musical.
But for now I'll stick with the HOF .
And orders another for my second board

Like that Groove3 has tutorials on this unit. Would suggest that Sweetwater create a site like Groove3 that is free to all its customers. That way one could purchase a product from your company and access tutorials on usage. What a great win-win advertising method for Sweetwater. This would intertwine with your great service.

Strymon is always making the best. i currently own one and just bought one for my brother in law and he is basically in love with it. lol. Seriously a great reverb pedal that can do much more than we would ever need as guitar players. I like the cab filter option. If i don't want to use my amps i can just engage the "cab filter" option and I'm good to go. I got it set up to be the last pedal in my chain. It works best like that. Props to Charlie Davis for being a great sales representative.

Great reverb-very customizable. Highly recommended.

By Craig from California on June 27, 2017 Music Background: Jazz lover, learning my way on the bass

What I love about this pedal is how musical the different preset reverbs are. And they are all tweakable so you can change them even further. I knew this was designed for guitar, and I was intending to use it for electric bass, so I was a little hesitant about the purchase, especially considering the premium price. But it is well worth it. And many of the reverbs work just as well for bass. It especially excels at creating ambient reverbs that hang around for awhile after you play the note. But even the simple plate reverb adds a nice liveness and warmth to the base tone. I still have a lot to explore to see what else it can do that I haven't discovered yet.

So many options!

By Amadeus from El Paso, Texas on September 20, 2016 Music Background: Lead Guitarist

I love this pedal. All the effects are professional studio sounding and there are so many options for reverb that you can do with this pedal that you can't get bored. The only complaint I have for it is that it is relatively noisy when you are using a daisy chained power supply like the true tone. Strymon recommends to use an isolated power supply which is kind of a pain when you are limited on power outlets which is why I did not give it the 5 stars. Other than that I definitely think its a pedal definitely worth buying.

By Murl Allen Sanders from Seattle, WA, USA on February 5, 2021 Music Background: Full time, lifelong professional musician

Best reverb ever for my instrument, accordion, which is tricky to amplify and trickier to add reverb/delay effects.

I would give this product 5 stars if the manual were easier to understand and the reverb unit functions were easier to understand, manipulate and save. A simple step-by-step tutorial in the manual about creating a custom sound and saving it easily, so that it is easy to find and use in a performance would make this product and manual perfect.

I'll probably be calling the Sweetwater helpline for tips on how to use this product.

I'll be keeping it because I love the sound of it for the accordion, even if it will take a long time to master the capabilities and functions of the "Strymon Big Sky".

Strymon

By Sweetwater Customer on April 27, 2018

I love this reverb pedal!! It sounds amazing!! My favorite settings are the Cloud, bloom, and hall. My only gripe is that the shimmer is useless hence only 4 stars. It sounds really digital and processed and I don"t find a many uses for it. The shimmer was the main reason I bought it, but the cloud was a happy surprise because of its high end sparkle. Fortunately it works for my gig and I dig it.

Big Sky

By Sweetwater Customer on September 8, 2017

Purchased this so I could have a multitude of Reverb units. Along with its rugged construction,
Nice.

Sounds amazing...the interface is aggravating.

First...there is a reason this pedal generally receives 5 stars.. The engineers at Strymon have cooked up a beautiful spread of reverbs with an interface that,at times, makes you want to beat your head against the wall. Thousands of people power through the learning curve and LOVE the Big Sky.For all that I loved about what the Big Sky provided I could not bond with the interface and refused to dedicate the time to extract all of the features that Strymon buries within this pedal. After months of hovering over my pedal board being way too handy with this pedal I snatched it off my board, boxed it up, and sold it to a guy who was over the moon when he purchased it from me. I did purchase another of the full featured Strymon pedal years later,The Volante, because they ditched the rotary dial and offered an experience that did not involve preset surfing. They have also remedied this with the Nightsky which will arrive at my house from Sweetwater tomorrow. Remember this as well before purchasing the Big Sky... if that rotary knob fails ...it is a single point of failure with this pedal and you are in trouble.

LEGENDARY

By Gustavo on August 1, 2022

The Strymon Big Sky is a legend and in 2022 still in the market. Great! The Big Sky popularity speaks for itself.

I gave 3 stars only because Strymon missed a very important point in product manufacturing. Which in my opinion is packaging. While the Big Sky is heavy in weight is not well protected. Is almost non-protected in my opinion. Only the power supply is.

The Big Sky is a HEIRLOOM.

Trust Me, I Really Wanted to Leave a 5-Star Review

By Erik from Seattle on April 23, 2022 Music Background: Church Lead Guitar 10 years

but. . . there is a rather large elephant in the room that is preventing this from being the perfect pedal (no, it's not the interface or anything subjective like in other reviews).

Unfortunately, it is NOT a true stereo pedal as advertised!

*trying my best not to go down the rabbit hole explaining how my rig is set up*

Also for the sake of avoiding confusion, I am going to refer to the LEFT input as "input 1" and the RIGHT input as "input 2" from now on.

Long story short, I have owned this pedal for about 4 years and it appears the two input channels are duplicated to the Left and right side (or summed? not sure what the official term is). The outputs are best explained as follows:

LEFT OUT: Input 1 + Input 2 + Reverb Left

RIGHT OUT: Input 1 + Input 2 + Reverb Right

A better way to describe this signal flow would be "dual mono" as opposed to TRUE Stereo. I (and any other reasonable person) was under the impression that any input on the left side would STAY on the left side.

A simple way to prove this problem exists is to have two guitars and two amplifiers:

Run one guitar on the bridge pickup through input 1 and the other guitar on the neck pickup through input 2.

Turn both amplifiers on, and you will hear the guitar with the bridge pickup selected will play through BOTH amplifiers. The same is true for the other guitar. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't the guitar with the bridge pickup selected go through ONLY one amp, while the other guitar ONLY goes to the opposite one?

Additionally, my original goal was to use this pedal in 2 different effects loops (this is where the real problem lies with the signal pathing). My effects loop for the left side was going to be used for a Peavy 5150, while the right side was for a VOX AC 30. Needless to say, I was shocked when I discovered turning up the gain on my 5150 led to my AC30 getting louder (and vice versa)!

At first, I thought it was a glitch in the software, so I sent it in to have Sweetwater look at it (amazing customer service by the way). After consulting with Sweetwater and Strymon reps, I was informed the only way to solve my stereo FX loop issue was to have 2 discrete reverb pedals; one for each loop.

I found this to be mildly upsetting because I can't help but think " why the F #$@% K aren't the STEREO channels discrete in the first place?" If This pedal can not be used (or modified) to be 2 discrete left and right effects, It is really false advertising. I really hope there will be an update or something to fix this catastrophic problem with the signal flow.

last but not least, I also have this problem with a "stereo" delay pedal (Eventide Timefactor). There is a slight possibility I am just an idiot leaving a bad review due to incompetence lol. However I feel that is a slim chance, and all "stereo" pedals function the same way; sum both inputs to dual mono, then add the effect to the Left and Right side after the signal has been duplicated.

The reverb tone, however(especially the Cloud and Bloom settings) is the best I have ever heard. If you want to run this pedal in FRONT of your two amps, you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful pedal but...

By Bert on June 15, 2018 Music Background: Singer/songwriter

Bought it and sold it. I'm a singing guitarist so it wasn't completely practical for my performance. Basically it makes you wanna become a trance/ambient music performer. Perhaps you could book a yoga gig where you loop and Big Sky it up while people put their butts in the air..
Pros: The reverb is beautiful and there are lots of fun options. You can bank and customize your reverb. It's a beautiful looking pedal with a cool brand name.
CONS: In day light you can't see the screen at all! You'd like to see so you know which effect you are getting yourself into so I wish they used an LED screen like the TC-Helicon Play Acoustic. I had people suggest I customize a flap to block the sun but no thanks. It's not the cheapest purchase either. It's a big commitment for reverb. Requires 12v and it needs it's own supply basically unless you purchase a nice power supply like Strymons Zuma. Ideally you'd like to have a 9v chain you could run to make life simpler.

I'd say if you're in a studio or a pro get this thing. If you make bank bro get this. If you're just strumming or finger picking you can go with a $200 or less option and be satisfied.

Horribly Overrated

By Eric M. Gendell from Jersey City,, NJ on May 19, 2023 Music Background: Full time musician/ Guitar Tech (for my own instruments

I owned this pedal since 2019 and used it constantly, so I am familiar with it's operation, but honestly I was always on the fence. The pedal never sat right with me and I finally realized that it is a horribly overpriced piece of technology that does not deliver the magical fairy dust all the other reviewers swear by.

I have used it with many different guitars and amplifiers , with many different places on my pedal chains, but after all is said and done is passable at best. Sure, it is a decent pedal and sounded best with my nylon string guitars and good with my acoustic, solid, semi hollow, hollow-body, resonator and lap steel with a few useable sounds, but over all, I cannot understand the rave reviews, so I decided to sell it despite it being in mint condition.

Although I only have purchased 2 Strymon pedals, the Blue Sky and Volante, which I returned, their reputation is overblown and I will probably never buy another strymon product again.

To pricey

By Cliff from NJ on September 14, 2017

If you play live and don't use midi your going to have a hard time changing more than 3 presets easily.
This is a very very expensive pedal and for the price they should have a big touchscreen to program and assign effects. To add insult to injury so to speak Strymon wants you to spend another $ for a 3 switch foot switch which only helps a little and does what the Big Sky should have done for the price.
On top of that there is no manual. You have to download it! I don't want to be to picky, but other boutique pedal companies supply a fake velvet bag or a bag of some kind to store and protect your pedal, not Strymon. The positive, it has many good reverb sounds. But for the price they need to work out their interface and user friendliness plus supply some of the basics I mentioned above.
