I found this image of me (created by Camille Lauren) from a Huffington Post article back in 2015 titled, Stigma And Silence: Black Canadians And The Fight For Mental Health Awareness.Isn't it weirdly, yet beautifully coincidental how similar the image is to my book cover? *note* I had completely forgotten about this image until I did a Google search looking for images that represented "Mental Health Stigma in the Black Community."

Happy Sunday Folks,A couple years ago, I realized that aiming to live a ‘balanced life’ prioritizes end results rather than prioritizing how I feel throughout the experience. As someone who struggles with anxiety, this perspective made me more anxious. So, I decided to change things around and opted for living a harmonious life—a life that’s less demanding and one which brings my lens back into the present moment while placing focus on feeling at peace in all areas of my life. All in all, in doing so, I wrote, Good For You. I aimed for this book to serve as an accessible guide to self-reflection, self-care, and self-love, empowering women to access their emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual intelligence as they embrace a more nurturing and fulfilling life.Mother's Day is fast approaching, and if you're searching for the PERFECT GIFT or a thoughtful addition to your present for all the mothers in your life, look no further! (the reviews speak for themselves 😉)Grab your copies at www.goodforyoubook.com, Amazon, or simply click the link in my bio! You won't regret it! 😘#GoodForYouBook #MothersDayGiftIdeas

Every day millions of people LIE. The most common lie is, "I'm fine." I'm here to tell you that it's okay to not be fine and it is okay to ask for help. Not all pain is physical and not all wounds are visible. And because of that many people do not see the pain or understand the struggle that a person battling their mind faces every day.May is widely acknowledged and recognized as #MentalAwarenessMonth. And. As a Mental Health Advocate who has personally grappled with suicidal ideation, depression, and ongoing anxiety, I understand these challenges all too well. It's for this reason that I often emphasize the importance of prioritizing your mental health. To help you monitor and nurture your mental well-being, here are five tips for practicing mental health wellness.1. Regular Self-ChecksIt’s important to do a quick self check on your mental state. Ask your questions like the following: Am I feeling down? Am I feeling anxious? Have I made any significant behaviour changes recently? If you can answer yes to these questions, it might be time to find a little help to make sure your mental health is in tip top shape.2. Establish Healthy BoundariesSet boundaries to protect your mental and emotional well-being. Learn to say no to activities or commitments that drain your energy and prioritize relationships and activities that uplift and support you.3. Seek SupportReach out to friends, family members, or mental health professionals for support when needed. Sharing your feelings and experiences with trusted individuals can provide validation, perspective, and practical assistance in coping with challenges.4. Practice MindfulnessIncorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine to cultivate present moment awareness and reduce stress. This could involve mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply paying attention to your thoughts and feelings without judgment.5. Remove Toxic People from your LifeThis one is hard to do, especially if the toxic person happens to be a family member or loved one....but in the long run, if someone constantly creates a negative vibe around you and it affects you mentally, it is time to distance yourself.Helloooo May!! #MentalAwarenessMonth #StacyAnnSpeaks #MentalHealthAdvocate

Mental health awareness and advocacy are not confined to Mental Health Awareness Month; they are essential aspects of our daily lives. It is imperative to foster ongoing conversations and provide safe spaces year-round to address mental health challenges, combat stigmas, and offer support and resources. As I accept speaking engagements and workshop facilitations during Mental Health Awareness Month this May, I am excited to engage in discussions focusing on Self-Advocacy, Decolonizing Mental Health, Demystifying the Strong Black Woman Myth, Breaking the Silence: Exploring High-Functioning Anxiety and Depression, and Cultivating Mindful Practices for a Harmonious Life. My ultimate goal is to inspire positive transformation, empower individuals to reclaim their narrative, and foster meaningful dialogues around mental wellbeing. With a proven track record of speaking engagements at esteemed organizations across North America and the Caribbean, including TEDx, CAMH, Bell Media, Television Jamaica (TV J), Telus, Toronto Community Housing, TAIBU, and Dario Health, as well as renowned academic institutions like York University, University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University, Western University, McMaster University, George Brown College, Humber College, and Northern Caribbean University, alongside numerous high schools within Toronto, Peel, Durham, and Barrie, I bring a wealth of diverse experience both in-person and virtually.Additionally, I am honoured to be recognized as one of the 100 Black Women to Watch in Canada, as well as one of the 150 Leading Canadians for Mental Health and 150 Black Women Making Canada Better.Let's collaborate to empower your audience, transform your space, and make a meaningful impact together!Reach out today:www.stacyannbuchanan.com#SpeakingEngagement#MentalHealthAwarenessMonth#Leadership#TransformativeConnection

A gentle reminder - being scared to ask for what you need is a trauma response.

Exactly nine years ago, I took a leap of faith and directed and produced my first film, The Blind Stigma: Mental Health within the Black Community. To be honest, I had no idea what I was doing. But. I just knew this documentary had to be made, Black stories around mental health had to be told, the shame had to be unveiled, the dust under the rug had to be swept and the fact that mental illness within Black communities is the #1 silent killer had to be made aware. To date, The Blind Stigma went on to become an award-winning documentary that is now a part of Canadian History by being the first of its kind, it has been featured on several media platforms throughout North America and the Caribbean, the brand has extended into a podcast, it received a distribution deal in its 5th year (2020), made it to TIFF in it's 6th year (2021), and it revolutionized my career path and continue to inspire, motivate, change and save lives.Never in my wildest dreams did I know that the plans I had for myself would be a stepping stone for the plans that God has for my life! Before I close this status, I want to again thank each and everyone of you who has supported this film by coming to see it, purchasing the DVD (remember those), liked, shared, reposted, commented, told-a-friend, donated (time and money), promoted, worked on and just overall believed in me.There is power in numbers and this 'little film' proved just that. From the bottom of heart - thank you.No words can express my eternal gratitude. Please remember this: "If you can dream it, you can achieve it."#ChangeTheStigma #TheBlindStigma #BlackHistoryMonth Watch the doc here: https://lnkd.in/gruWfa*gf

Just here to remind you that not every "opportunity" that comes your way is a good opportunity. Some of these "opportunities" can really be oppurtunists in disguise. ✅ Use your discretion.✅ Read the fine print.✅ Exercise your discernment.✅ Pray on it.No amount of dollar$$ and exposure is worth disturbing your spiritual health, confusing your emotional health and tampering with your mental health.I always preach that you should make your passion your paycheck.....but that paycheck should also bring you peace.Welcome to my #TEDTalk.#StacyAnnSpeaks #PaidAndPeaceful #YourMentalHealthMatters
