Manitowoc road closures start for two-way conversion work, Washington Street repaving. Plus, more in weekly dose. (2024)

MANITOWOC - City of Manitowochas startedto install epoxy pavement markings for the conversion of the Eighth, 10th and 11th Street corridors to two-way traffic.

The pavement marking work was scheduled to begin today and take about three weeks, ending around July 29.

The city, however, said the west side of Eighth Street and the east side of the 10th/11th Street corridor will have to remain closed until the planned conversion to two-way traffic takes place Aug. 15.

The first phase of the pavement marking project will be on the east side of the Eighth Street corridor and the west side of the 10th/11th Street corridor. During this first phase, there will be periodic lane closures at most of the intersections.

The pavement markings are being completed in the order stated so traffic on the Eighth and10th/11th Street corridors will be in the appropriate lane for the upcoming two-way traffic for about three weeks prior to the conversion going live, the city said.

The pavement marking work isn't the only road work starting this week. Here are two other projects happening in the city:

The detour route for westbound traffic on Washington Street will be South 21st Street to Franklin Street to South 26th Street back to Washington Street/Calumet Avenue.
