This issue started recently. I've noticed via iStat menus that xpcproxy has been using up very high CPU (sometimes 100%, sometimes 300%) and the process continues until I restart my computer. This resolves the issue temporarily but will return after a while (maybe an hour or so after restart). I'm on a 2016 MacBook Pro running Monterey 12.6. I've already tried running a Malwarebytes scan but it detected no threats.
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot what's causing this? And is there a way to force quit the process without restarting? Thanks.

- Why is Mdsynch using so much CPU on MontereyI have a late 2015 iMac Retina w/64GB memory and recently upgraded to Monterey. When I boot up, everything is working fine for a few hours, then suddenly normal functions like clicking on a webpage or opening an app simply don't work. If I open up Activity monitor, it shows that Mdsynch is consuming anywhere from 85%-99% of the cpu. Then, if I reboot, everything is fine again... until a little bit later that same thing occurs. Interestingly enough, the top process is corespotlightd, and it seems like the CPU usage % is approximately the same as the xpcproxy usage reported by iStat.
I actually was having an issue with Spotlight search recently as well but didn't think it was related. The issue was - bringing up Spotlight search would cause CPU usage to spike. Force quitting corespotlightd in Activity Monitor would solve the issue, but immediately after I made another Spotlight search, the CPU would spike again. However, when I was experiencing this issue before, iStat reported the CPU usage as corespotlightd, and not xpcproxy.
I just tried quitting corespotlightd just now and the xpcproxy usage disappears on iStat as well. I tried doing another Spotlight search, but the CPU didn't spike as before. However, I'm not convinced the issue is resolved. Is there a way to "reset" spotlight so this issue doesn't happen again?

Besides using iStat to monitor " xpcproxy " - what does the Activity Monitor >> View >> View ALL process indicating.
Have just check on my computer running Monterey 12.6 and the results are, there is not Native Apple Process by that name that is running.
In your computer case, this process maybe related so some Their Party Application that was installed and running

A - Yes -->> Force a Reindex via Terminal Command “ sudo tmutil -E / “ without Quotation Marks

Have looked and the Biggest Issue is the computer is " Running Out to Empty Space "
It is suggested to keep at least 15% to 20% of the Drive Total Capacity as Empty Space for good operations of the computer and for additional updates to Monterey to download, expand and install.
Q - Size: 499.96 GB
Q - Free: 29.57 GB
Q - Available: 32.71 GB
The above is the most important aside from this being a Vintage machine with 8 GB RAM running VM Software and Many System Modification
There is a lot of Work and Down Time to both Cleanup the System and to make that 15% - 20% target of Empty Space.
The direction to achieve is the Users' ( yours' )
To work through the existing configuration or Erase / Re-Install the OS as a Clean Installation.
Then commence to Re-Install Only the Required Applications again and Directly for the Developers

To add - the less empty space the more the CPU and overall System will be searching to find an Empty Space to save changes.
This may account for the Spotlight behaviours

I'm currently re-indexing Spotlight and will free up some drive space afterwards. Fingers crossed that it solves my issues. Thank you for all your help!
