Food for thought đ If a Brick layer of 7+ years was looking for work and saw an advert up for âbricklayer neededâ applied and then got asked to lay a sheds worth of bricks, free of charge to prove his worth dispite showing them all the houses he had worked on, would that be ok?Why do graphic designers have to do this?đđđ€đ€#work #graphic #designers

Totally agree with you Dan, if..... however, you were to choose to supply elements of your portfolio or respond to a creative brief put together for the purpose of recruitment or freelance engagement, I would strongly suggest putting in place a mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) which would restrict the company from any form reproduction of your work after the engagement process has been concluded

Itâs not just designers sadlyâŠHave been asked to provide an entire marketing/comms campaign or planning for a year, etc for brands before. I didnât proceed with the application. A short/succinct task to decide between candidates is one thing, actually doing unbilled work is a red flag if nothing else! Have even heard of people doing what youâre mentioning before and the interviewing company actually used the work produced, even if they didnât take the candidate on! Avoid!!!

My short reply is, you donât! The issue here is âWhy should designers be expected to do this?â Itâs like some weird, prove yourself trip that some clients think is acceptable. Iâve definitely seen this a lot in the past too, but you donât have to at all. I never work for free, nor do I create artwork for free as part of a pitch. Would they work for free? I doubt it. Thereâs merit in refusing, it shows youâre not in a position where you need to âprove yourselfâ, as long as your work is presented in the best possible way, stick to your guns and be confident in saying no.

Please view on desktop for the optimal experience.Embarking on my first Shopify venture has been an exciting journey! I've had the incredible privilege of collaborating with a former military individual who, despite facing immense challenges, not only survived a spinal injury but also decided to channel his passion for extreme sports into creating a brand. Over the past year, I've been deeply involved in product development and the shaping of his Shopify store.Stepping into this role required me to go above and beyond, from creating compelling graphic elements to curating images from UK surf photographers. A unique aspect of this collaboration has been my participation in photoshoots, testing the products firsthand. While the Shopify store is still undergoing tweaks, I'm eagerly anticipating the continuous evolution of this project with Bravery. Take a moment to explore the results of our hard work and dedication.https://bravery.co.uk
